Tool and die Makers and Mold Makers don’t share the same platform.. you should not mix the two. A machinist builds from a print generally speaking. So do die makers and mold makers.. Die Designers and mold Designers can imagine it, conceive and draw it on their respective trades. In a way the mold and die maker are also Machinist

My dad was a tool & die maker in Detroit back in the 70's. Unfortunately he passed away when when he was very young, and so while I knew the title of his job, I never knew what it was he was actually doing at work. And it's true, he was very smart, great at math, and wore long white socks (with his steel toed boots that laced up halfway to his knee. Strange the things one remembers from their childhood, lol) Thank you for making this video and letting me have some understanding of his work. 🙂

People who say this trade is dying, is that because you are reluctant to give up the old ways for the new computer based ways? Its certainly dying if you dont keep up with the innovations in technology. But if you are ready to take this trade into the modern world, it might not look exactly the same when we get there, but Tool and Die making by way of software and programming, automation etc, we are only a newborn with a lucrative future ahead of us. One just has to accept the new ways and be prepared innovate on them.

Machines make mass production possible and toolmakers make the machines. CNC is so much faster the trade is shinking. Sort of going the way of the old blacksmiths for many..
